Case Study

Corrosion protection and performance restoration of a nash vacuum pump CL 3000

The Challenge

A Nash Vacuum Pump Type CL 3000 used by Papertech was returned to PT Corrocoat Indonesia after a reduction in suction performance was identified after 13 year in service.
The pump had originally been refurbished and coated with Corroglass 600 Series in 2013. Following inspection and cleaning in 2026, the protective coating applied to the cover, cone and rotor was largely in good condition. However, wear was identified within the casing eccentric area, where the rotor, process fluid and entrained debris interact.
To restore performance, the project required more than corrosion protection alone. Critical dimensions, internal clearances and operating tolerances needed to be assessed and reinstated to return the pump to optimum operating condition.

The Solution

PT Corrocoat Indonesia carried out a comprehensive refurbishment programme combining specialist engineering services with proven corrosion protection technology.
The scope of work included detailed inspection and dimensional assessment of the pump components, machining to restore geometry, abrasive blast surface preparation and application of the Corroglass 600 Series coating system.
Following coating application, critical clearances were reinstated through precision machining. The rotor was balanced, consumable components including bearings, gaskets and gland packing were replaced, and the pump was reassembled with cone-to-rotor tolerances accurately set.

The Results

The refurbishment successfully restored both corrosion protection and mechanical performance.
Corroglass 600 Series continued to provide protection to wetted and exposed surfaces after more than 13 years of service, while precision engineering works addressed wear within critical operating areas. The combined approach enabled suction performance to be restored and the pump returned to service.

Key Benefits

Corroglass 600 Series remained largely intact after more than 13 years in service
• Restored suction performance through precision machining and tolerance setting
• Combined corrosion protection and mechanical refurbishment in a single project
• Reinstated critical operating clearances and component geometry
• Extended equipment service life and delayed replacement costs
• Returned the pump to operational service with restored performance
