Case Study – Extending Service Life Of Reflux Tank Dished Ends

Extending Service Life Of Reflux Tank Dished Ends

The Industry

Chemical Manufacturing.

The Challenge:

After an initial capital investment in a Regan unit, processing Sulfuryl chloride, hydrochloric acid gas, Sulfur Dioxide gas and chlorine, with an operating temperature range of -25°C to +40°C with the working temperature being on the cold side of the range, the customers issue was pitting and corrosion on the units that had been recently swapped out.

The Solution

Abrasive blast the internals with to ISO 8501-1 to Sa21⁄2 with a surface profile of 50 microns. Fill any pits using Corofill VE. Apply Polyglass VEF to a WFT of 600-800 microns. 2nd coat of Polyglass VEF to a DFT of 1200 microns. Carry out thickness testing following adequate cure of coating. Post cured for 60-80°C for at least 8 hours to ensure full cure prior to entering service and provide full chemical resistance.

Results and Benefits

The unit’s performance needed excellent resistance to solvents, acids, and de-mineralised water. Polyglass VEF was recommended, as it has excellent hold up during application, providing exceptional chemical resistance, leading to a longer life of asset protection.
