Chemical Dosing – Mix Tanks.
After a capex investment in a bespoke chemical mixing tank, processing 50% sulphuric acid at an ambient temperature, our client required a barrier coating system to protect the new asset from corrosion.
To prepare the substrate for coating application, the internal surfaces of the tank were abrasive blasted with new abrasive in accordance with ISO 8501-1 SA 21⁄2. One coat Polyglass PPA was applied as a holding primer. Corrofill VE was utilised to radius the internal interfaces, this can also be used to repair and pits in corroded steel. Mult-axial glass fabric lamination was applied to the internal interfaces, the lamination provided additional structural reinforcement to the coating system where flexing can occur. Polyglass VEF was specified to all internal surfaces of the tank which was applied by airless spray to achieve a minimum DFT of 1500 microns. Spark Testing was carried out to ensure the coating is free from holidays/pin holes. Polyglass VE Veil coat was applied as a top coat, specifically designed for aggressive chemical environments. The coating will be post cured at 60-80°C for at least 8 hours to ensure full cure prior to entering service. Abrasive blast the external surfaces with new abrasive in accordance with ISO 8501-1 SA21⁄2. Apply two coats of Plasmet ZF and a finish coat of Corothane AP1.
As the tanks are designed for chemical mixing, the internal substrate can be subject to a wide range of chemicals and concentrations. This is why the Polyglass VEF & Polyglass VE Veilcoat coating system is applied, as it offers superior corrosion, chemical and temperature resistance.
Corroserve has the experience and expertise to either coat from new or provide remedial coatings to units subject to aggressive chemical environments. The bespoke coating systems used are determined by the operating conditions and mediums. Our coatings systems have provided unrivalled levels of corrosion protection in the harshest of environments for over 40 years.
Corroserve is a member of Corrosioneering Group which also includes specialist paints and coatings manufacturer – Corrocoat and research and development division – corrolabs. Working together, we provide the ultimate ‘one- stop-shop’ for our customers.
