Case Study – New road tanker internal protective coating system for transporting acidic waste streams

New road tanker internal protective coating system for transporting acidic waste streams

The Industry:

Hazardous Waste Road Transport.

The Challenge:

The client invested in a Van Hool Tanker, manufactured in 304 grade Stainless Steel. This tanker is for the transportation of variable acidic waste streams including, nitric, sulphuric and hydrochloric acids at variable temperatures. The requirement was for a bespoke internal tank lining coating system, which would protect this asset and guarantee longevity of service.

The solution:

The tanker manways and internals were stripped and blast cleaned to sa2.5. with a profile of 50–100 μm. A bespoke coating system was used comprising 610 gm2 quadaxial matting which was laminated to all the tank internals, followed by a build coat of Polyglass VEF at 1200 μm and finally a Veil Coat of Polyglass VE at 250 μm.

Results and Benefits

The bespoke coating system provides industry-leading levels of long term protection to the tanker internals, pipeways, external reservoirs and manway necks and lids. Affording complete protection from and resistance to, the variable acids at variable temperatures, that are constantly being loaded, transported and unloaded. The result is extended life cycles through the highest levels of asset protection.
